Michael Douglas Reveals the Truth About Jack Nicholson's Disappearance
Michael Douglas has kept in touch with Jack Nicholson despite the latter’s step back from the limelight. “I would have liked to have acted with Jack. He’s not working any more,” Douglas, 82, said during a recent event in Wales to discuss his One Helluva Ride memoir, per The Independent. “He’s well. He has disappeared. I know that.” Nicholson, 89, previously starred in 1975’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which Douglas produced. He last acted in 2010’s How Do You Know? and has since largely resigned from the public eye. “I still see him, but he is fine. He is up there by his house and walking around in his slippers,” Douglas quipped. “It happens. He deserves it. I understand. He is a few years older than me, but I understand.”
Nicholson made a rare public appearance at the milestone 50th anniversary celebration of Saturday Night Live in February 2025. “Ladies and gentleman, Adam Sandler,” he said last year, introducing the SNL vet’s musical performance about the sketch comedy series. Sandler, 60, even gushed about Nicholson’s attendance in his lyrical soliloquy. “Yeah, baby! Let’s hear it for Jack, baby,” Sandler added during the show. “Jack made it out tonight. Love you, brother.” Nicholson attended the show with his daughter Lorraine, whom he shares with ex Rebecca Broussard. (The prolific actor and Broussard, 63, are also parents of son Ray. He also shares daughter Jennifer with Sandra Knight, son Caleb with Susan Anspach, daughter Honey with Winnie Hollman and daughter Tessa with Jennine Gourin.)
According to Lorraine, her bond with her famous dad drew amid his past romance with Lara Flynn Boyle. “For my father, Lara acted as a bridge between him and his children. Suddenly, we were doing things we had never done before,” Lorraine, 36, wrote in a Vanity Fair essay published in January 2025. “In Aspen, we went whitewater rafting down the Colorado River. We cackled wildly while playing Parcheesi. In one particularly traitorous game of Uno, my brother and I kamakazied ourselves so that while we wouldn’t win, my father wouldn’t either.” Nicholson dated Boyle, 56, from 1999 to 2004. “I don’t know if he cried or if she cried, but I certainly did. I woke one snowy winter morning at our house in Aspen and she had just — vanished,” Lorraine recalled of the breakup. “I’d known my father’s relationship with Lara couldn’t last forever, and yet when I was with her, I had no clue what I would do without her.” According to Lorraine, the last words Boyle ever told her were, “I’ll always have you in my heart, baby.” Lorraine has not seen Boyle since her breakup with Jack.
