The Dateline Stories That Still Haunt Keith Morrison and Lester Holt New

The Dateline Stories That Still Haunt Keith Morrison and Lester Holt

The journalists of Dateline have covered a multitude of shocking stories during their time on the show, though some have continued to linger in their minds years after the cases were covered. While exclusively speaking to Us, Dateline correspondents including Keith Morrison, Andrea Canning, Lester Holt and more broke down the most unsettling cases that stick with them to this day. “The most recent one is the case involving Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell,” Morrison, 79, says of the couple convicted of multiple crimes, including those connected to the 2019 murders of Vallow’s children, Tylee and J.J. “Some go back 25 years, [like] a case where a man was falsely convicted. We spent years telling the story... but it didn’t do any good. He ended up dying in prison, which is a terrible shame.” One case that stuck out to Canning, 53, happened in her hometown of Blue Mountain, Ontario. “A beautiful mother, Ashley Milnes, was murdered [in 2023] by her fire captain husband, who staged a car accident at the base of the ski resort my grandfather founded, just a few miles from my childhood home,” she says. “A case had never hit so close to home, literally and figuratively.” The 2014 murder-for-hire of Dan Markel sticks with Dennis Murphy. Charlie Adelson and Donna Adelson, brother and mother of Markel’s ex, Wendi Adelson, were convicted for their involvement in 2023 and 2025, respectively. “When I think about what turns seemingly normal people into monsters, I remember the twisted currents of those events,” Murphy, 79, says. The entire ordeal “turned out to be eight years of coverage.” “A friend of mine was killed. I went to Arizona to go to his funeral, and then I ended up doing the story,” Josh Mankiewicz says about the 2018 murder of Dr. Steven Pitt by Dwight Jones. “He was a psychiatrist, and he was killed by someone he had done a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation of years earlier. I had just seen [Steven] 10 days before, and I kept being struck by the fact of, when I met him, he was already in that guy’s sights.” Holt, 67, tells Us that the “case that immediately comes to mind is one I fear will stay with me for a long time and serves as a reminder that Dateline is not only a true crime–oriented program: our investigation into the 2025 flash flood disaster in Kerr County, Texas.” While reflecting on the July 2025 tragedy that killed 28 people at Camp Mystic, including 25 kids, Holt, 67, says the show’s “reporting focused on the circumstances that led to the deaths at [the] Christian summer camp built along the Guadalupe River.” “Speaking to people who have suffered horrible loss is never easy, but there was something about the conversations with parents I found exceptionally impactful,” he says. “Maybe it’s the parent in me who recalls the mixed emotions of sending my children off to adventures and into the care of others. Letting go is tough, and the pain of these moms and dads in retrospect is deeply relatable.” Blayne Alexander says that her recent episode of Unmasking the Monster “was so different from other cases” he’s covered for Dateline, making the story particularly memorable. “With murders, we only have family or close friends to speak for the victim. In this case, we were investigating a rape cold case,” Alexander, 49, says. “I interviewed Dana Beatty, the woman who had been attacked. My conversation with Dana will stay with me for the rest of my life. Her strength and determination moved me to my core. And I’ve heard from many viewers who reached out to say how much they were inspired by Dana.”

Filgueiras was co-piloting the aircraft alongside 55-year-old Captain Jeff Gregory when it lost control and crashed in Greenacres, killing all nine people on board. Investigators have yet to establish an official cause of the disaster, but severe weather, ice accumulation, extreme turbulence, and a possible mid-air structural failure are among the factors being examined. Credit: Threads/@itsnatsfilg Now, Filgueiras' former instructor, Chris Kirk, has shared a heartfelt message about the young pilot on Facebook, reflecting on her brilliant abilities and passion for aviation. Writing on Wednesday, Kirk revealed that Filgueiras had fewer than 1,100 flight hours when she took her Learjet type rating examination, which she 'absolutely aced,” reportedly leaving the examiner so impressed that they believed she had around 5,000 hours of experience. A type rating is an additional qualification on a pilot's license that allows them to operate a particular category of aircraft. Paying tribute to her former student, Kirk wrote: “That young lady was born to fly!” He went on to describe Filgueiras as “without a doubt the most naturally gifted pilot I have ever taught” during his 40-year teaching career. “There was not a check ride that the examiner was not blown away!” he added. Kirk also remembered giving Filgueiras opportunities to gain experience flying a variety of aircraft, including tailwheel planes and the Caravan, with Kirk admitting that during her spin endorsement training for her Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) license, the pair performed so many spins that he began to feel sick. He also praised the young pilot's enthusiasm, explaining that he had become frustrated with trainees who wanted to become airline pilots without sharing a genuine love of flying. However, he claimed Filgueiras stood apart from those students and was 'hugely PASSIONATE about flying!!!'. Concluding the tribute, Kirk wrote: “I pray that she continues to fly amongst the clouds in heaven.” Federal investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, which left a huge crater in the road and scattered debris across an area stretching around half a mile. Credit: X/@elteslaengineer Filgueiras was co-piloting the Learjet 60 on a journey from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when cockpit audio captured her desperately communicating with air traffic control as the aircraft began descending. She initially reported experiencing 'moderate turbulence' before declaring an emergency. “Mayday mayday... we’re descending 10,000ft per minute,” she told the controller. Moments later, she warned that the aircraft was experiencing another serious problem. “Declaring emergency, declaring emergency, we are in an overspeed condition,” she said. The air traffic controller responded: “I’m here with you, talk to me.” Filgueiras then described the terrifying descent, saying: “We are descending 22,000ft, and we are banking 60 degrees.” Her final transmission was: “We’re out of time.” Her family also told the New York Post that she had managed to send a text message to her boyfriend, Justin, shortly before the crash. “I’ve got turbulence, I’ve got ice,” she reported. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has since said severe weather played a 'significant factor' in the disaster, while investigators believe part of the aircraft may have broken away before it struck the ground. Among the passengers were entrepreneur Adam Robinson, 45, founder of technology company Retention, his wife Helen Sharp, 40, and their two young children, Emma and Charlie. The family was also traveling with their nanny, Anita Maria Cetina, as well as another couple, Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr. The group had been traveling together to celebrate Robinson's birthday. In a joint statement, the victims' families paid tribute to Robinson and Sharp, remembering them as 'devoted parents' whose children 'were the light of their lives'. They also shared an emotional message about the couple's relationship, writing: “Helen and Adam were the love affair that will last forever.” Featured Image Credit: Threads/@itsnatsfilg

Matt Damon Opens Up About Wife Luciana's Heroic Recovery from Brain Aneurysm New

Matt Damon Opens Up About Wife Luciana's Heroic Recovery from Brain Aneurysm

Matt Damon revealed wife Luciana Barroso had a health scare in 2024. In his new GQ cover story, Damon, 56, recalled missing the 2007 Oscars and shared that he was looking forward to celebrating again with Oppenheimer in 2024. That is, until Barroso, 50, underwent surgery just before the awards show, which the couple had to skip. “We had this whole scary thing happen where my wife had a brain aneurysm,” Damon said in the interview published on Thursday, November 5. “She’s totally fine, thank God, but [she] had this brain surgery the week before the Oscars.” Despite the surgery, Barroso surprised Damon with a sweet gesture, and the pair ultimately stepped out to attend an afterparty. “But it was the first night she felt good enough to get up and had her energy back. And she surprised me and got a dress and we went out to the afterparty, because she remembered that the last time it happened, I didn’t do it,” he recalled. “And she was like, ‘This time we’re going out.’ And it was pretty f***ing heroic of her to do that and really meaningful.” Damon did not receive a nod for his role as Leslie Groves in Oppenheimer at the 2024 ceremony, but the film got 13 nominations and took home Best Picture that year. Before the awards show, host Jimmy Kimmel joked that Damon was skipping the Oscars because he wasn’t nominated for Oppenheimer. “What really happened? He couldn’t get a ticket,” Kimmel, 58, quipped to CNN at the time of Damon’s absence. “It’s one of the saddest things I’ve ever heard. He asked if he could come and they told him, ‘Sorry – nominees only.’” Damon has been married to Barroso since 2005. The pair met two years prior when Barroso was a single mother to daughter Alexia and working at a bar in Miami. The Odyssey star and Barroso later added three more daughters — Isabella, Gia and Stella — to their family. “I just know I think we both feel really, really lucky to have met each other so we don’t take that for granted,” Barroso told Vogue in 2018 of the pair’s relationship. “It’s life and marriage, so there’s ups and downs you know, but overall, it’s easy and it’s fun. And he’s such a good dad.”

Why This Simple Math Puzzle Has Everyone Questioning Their Basics New

Why This Simple Math Puzzle Has Everyone Questioning Their Basics

Hello! Here is a fun riddle to wake up your brain.Look closely at the image provided. You will see a simple math question written on lined paper. It looks like something you learned in elementary school. The question is: what is 4 + 4 ÷ 4 + 4?It seems very easy at first. If you don’t use the correct rules, you will get a wrong answer.Did you immediately think the answer is 16?Well, the top of the page tells you something important. It says: “Answer is NOT 16?”So, if you got 16, it is wrong, and we need to find out why.The person who made this puzzle wants you to rethink your approach. They know it’s a very common mistake. The reason you might get 16 is by just reading the numbers left to right. If you do 4 + 4, you get 8.Then, if you take that 8 and divide by 4, you get 2.Finally, if you take that 2 and add 4, you get 6.Wait, that’s not 16. What’s going on?Let’s re-read the mistake pattern. Some people do: (4+4) ÷ (4+4).That would be 8 ÷ 8, which is 1.Others do (4+4) ÷ 4 + 4. That is 8 ÷ 4 + 4.Which is 2 + 4, giving you 6.If people just treat division like another addition: 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 16.This is why the image specifically says “NOT 16?”.It is a warning against a lazy or incorrect approach. To solve this correctly, we must use the rules of math. These rules are called the “order of operations.”This is also known by an acronym, like PEMDAS (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, Addition and Subtraction) or BODMAS (Brackets, Orders, Division and Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction). This rule tells us what to do first, second, third, and so on.The rule says that Division and Multiplication are more powerful and must be done before Addition and Subtraction.Think of it like a higher rank in an army. So, let’s look at the problem again with this new, powerful rule. The problem is: 4 + 4 ÷ 4 + 4.According to the rules, we cannot just go from left to right. We must find the division problem first. The division part is 4 ÷ 4.What is 4 divided by 4?It is simply 1.Now, we replace 4 ÷ 4 in our problem with the number 1.Our problem is simplified to: 4 + 1 + 4.Now we have only additions, so we can go from left to right.First, do 4 + 1, which is 5.Finally, take that 5 and add the last 4.5 + 4 equals 9.So, the correct, logical, and mathematical answer is 9.The image was right to question the “16”.It is a clever little trick to make you pause and remember your school lessons.Did you get it right on the second try?I hope you enjoyed this quick mental challenge!

Kanye West's Family Moment at Yeezy Show Sparks Reactions New

Kanye West's Family Moment at Yeezy Show Sparks Reactions

Kanye West made his latest Yeezy runway show a family affair! The rapper, 49, was flanked by all four of his children with ex Kim Kardashian — daughters North, 13, and Chicago, 8, and sons Saint, 10, and Psalm, 7 — at his latest fashion show in Los Angeles on Wednesday, November 4. North, 13, styled her long blue hair, which reached her waist, straight, and wore matching blue contact lenses for the occasion. West’s eldest daughter wore an oversized black coat and black boots, while the other three children each wore monochrome-colored outfits. North also posed for photos with her stepmom, Bianca Censori. The Australian architect, 31, wore a one-piece jumpsuit with a plunging neckline that reached down to her navel. West was married to Kardashian, 46, from 2014 to 2022. Kardashian recently opened up about her coparenting dynamic with the Grammy winner in a new authorized biography, Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future, written by journalist and author Jonathan Van Meter. “Oh, I worry about [Kanye] all day,” Kardashian said in the book. “All the time. That’s the father of my kids, I’ll never not worry about him. And that’s a big burden of having kids with someone who you don’t necessarily get along with. My kids would never know that. I do everything in my power to forget about all the negative things that happened. I have to be realistic, and my therapist definitely tells me, ‘Your boundaries have to go up,’ but we manage to coparent without too much conflict.” She continued, “It’s been pretty smooth for a while. I guess because we don’t talk that much. But when we see each other, we give each other a hug. I’m really close with his family. I welcome anyone. I tell them all, open-door policy. Anytime you’re in town, come for dinner with us, see the kids as much as you want, take them out, come over and hang out. That’s their family. So I encourage the relationship with their dad so much.” Kardashian said she mostly communicates with her ex through Censori or his manager. “I’m always like, ‘Oh, Dad’s traveling,'” she said. “I still make up stories and protect [the kids] because I want them to think their dad is the greatest. But I invite him over all the time. ‘Do you want to come to dinner? I’ll leave the house. Come and have dinner with the kids in their house so that they can feel comfy. Sleep over for a few nights?’ Last Christmas, I said, ‘Sleep over on Christmas Eve. Bring your girlfriend.’ I’m easy! ‘Let’s all do Christmas together.’ And I’ll recommend it again this year. I will sweep everything under the rug, all the horrible things he has said about me, so that the kids can see their father.”
