Meet Lucy Weld: NYC Marathon's Youngest Racer Running on Her 18th Birthday

Blowing out her candles his going to be a little harder this year.A Manhattan high school senior is running the New York City Marathon on her 18th birthday Sunday — making her the youngest person competing in this year’s race and one of the youngest racers ever in the event. Lucy Weld considers the coincidence kismet, considering she’s always dreamed of accomplishing the five-borough feat.Lucy Weld is running the marathon Sunday — on her 18th birthday. Stephen Yang for NY Post“Running it on my birthday, I feel like I have to do it!” the Upper East Side teen told The Post ahead of race day.“I’m really excited! I’m a little bit nervous, but I feel like it’s really cool to have that under my belt.”Weld is happy to finally get her first chance to run the marathon, as the rules dictate that participants must be at least 18, and the 2026’s running of the 26.2-mile race is coming at the perfect time for her.“Running it on my birthday, I feel like I have to do it!” Weld said. Stephen Yang for NY PostThe Nightingale-Bamford School senior had grown up watching the heavy stream of racers near the finish line — and even suffered through the road blockages that made getting to her childhood soccer games a headache. More than 60,000 racers are competing in the 50th annual New York City Marathon. Anadolu via Getty ImagesWhat she didn’t anticipate was squeezing her first-ever marathon into one of the most exciting weeks of her young life so far.Weld, as captain of her soccer team, led her teammates to their first league championship win in 13 years on Wednesday — cinching the win just days before the marathon.“I really do enjoy running and — this sounds really cliché — but I enjoy challenging myself and I feel like this is the ultimate way to do that physically,” the soccer winger said.Weld is running this year’s race on behalf of the $71,000-a-year Nightingale-Bamford School, which is raising money to benefit The Pine Ridge School in South Dakota, its partner institution and the only all-girls school on a Native American reservation.Weld is also the first current student to run on the Nightingale Team. Stephen Yang for NY PostTypically, the Nightingale Team is comprised solely of alumni and faculty — making Weld the first current student to ever run the marathon in its ranks. And since her birthday falls on race day, Weld is also the youngest of the more than 60,000 runners competing in this year’s marathon. Road Runners rules require racers to be at least 18 years old, an age limit that was set in place in 1988, making it fair to say Weld can also count herself among the youngest to compete in the entire history of the race.Wesley Paul will forever remain the record holder, however, after running the 1977 New York City Marathon at the age of 8.Weld is most looking forward to the final few miles along Fifth Avenue — and not just because it means the finish line is within reach. “This is where I normally run, so it’ll be familiar to me. But I’ve also just heard that the crowds and energy there are incredible and so I’m really looking forward to that!” she said.Weld expects to celebrate her 18th birthday and first-ever marathon with a quiet family dinner at home. The real party will come the following week when she’s had a chance to recuperate.

Dan Reynolds Reveals Shocking Reason He Was Expelled from College New

Dan Reynolds Reveals Shocking Reason He Was Expelled from College

Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds is opening up about his upbringing in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “I’m not religious anymore, but I went on a Mormon mission for two years in Nebraska,” Reynolds, 39, said in a street interview with reporter Kate Mackz published Wednesday, October 28. “I got kicked out of BYU [Brigham Young University].” He continued, “I got kicked out ‘cause I confessed to having sex with my girlfriend to my bishop.” (BYU, a Utah college heavily associated with the Mormon church, follows a strict honor code that includes abstinence and sobriety.) After his expulsion, Reynolds said he went through a “yearlong repentance process.” “I read a lot of the Bible and said a lot of prayers, and then God forgave me,” he noted. “It is not something I would recommend to any kid to ever have to go through. It was not a good experience.” Reynolds is a father of four children, whom he shares with ex-wife Aja Volkman. The two musicians were married from 2011 to 2024. “I am saddened to say that after many beautiful years together Aja and I have separated. Being great parents to our children is our number one priority,” Reynolds tweeted in 2022. “Thank you for always supporting us with love and care for all these years.” Reynolds and Volkman, 46, had briefly separated in 2018, reuniting before their eventual divorce. “We decided to just keep working. … It’s been a work in progress, and we’re doing great,” Reynolds exclusively told Us in April 2019 of his short-lived reunion with Volkman. “My biggest goal in this realm of the platform I’ve been given is to show that everybody has issues.” He added at the time, “Marriage is not perfect. Relationships aren’t perfect. My body [isn’t perfect]. I have autoimmune diseases. I have ulcerative colitis. I have ankylosing spondylitis. I have depression. I have anxiety. We’re all humans.” After Reynolds and Volkman divorced, the “Thunder” singer moved on with actress Minka Kelly. “This beautiful man has healed wounds in me he did not inflict — simply by being himself,” the Ransom Canyon actress, 46, wrote via Instagram in July 2025, celebrating Reynolds’ birthday. “By embodying true masculinity. The kind that is vulnerable, honest and loving. I thought I knew kindness. Love. Patience. Generosity. Care. I thought I knew how to be gentle. And then I met him.” She continued in her tribute, “Watching him father and love his babies. Honoring and respecting their beautiful mother. Doing everything he can to be absolutely everything everyone needs from him. Finding ways every day to light up the lives of the ones so lucky enough to be loved by him. His benevolence, his priorities, his values and his honesty are all rooted in love.” Reynolds and Kelly ultimately called it quits in October after four years of dating.

Family Drama Unfolds After Grandpa's Secret is Revealed New

Family Drama Unfolds After Grandpa's Secret is Revealed

My parents abandoned me at Grandpa’s house when I was 5 and never came back. For 17 years, he was the only family I had. But the morning after his funeral, my parents showed up with a moving truck. My sister marched upstairs and announced, “I’m taking the master bedroom.” Then Mom shoved 2 black garbage bags into my arms. “Pack your things. Grandpa’s gone, and this house belongs to us now.” Dad was already ordering the movers to clear out Grandpa’s furniture. I didn’t argue. Three days before he di:ed, Grandpa had given me one strange instruction: “When they come back, let them talk. Then open my study.” I never understood why, until I turned the handle, opened that door, and saw who was waiting inside…My name is Elise. I was 22 when I lost the only person who had ever truly raised me.My grandfather, Theodore Mercer, was a quiet man who wore faded sweaters, repaired old furniture, and grew vegetables because he hated wasting money. He wasn’t wealthy in any obvious way.But he gave me something money couldn’t buy.A home where I was wanted. When I was five, my parents brought me to his house for what they called a weekend visit.Mom kissed my forehead.“We’ll come back Sunday, sweetheart.”I spent that Sunday sitting by the window in my favorite yellow dress. They never came.My father, Marcus, and my mother, Vanessa, moved to another state with my older sister, Sienna.I was left behind. At first, Grandpa called them constantly. They made excuses, promised to visit, and eventually stopped answering. No birthdays. No Christmas cards. No school visits. For years, I believed I’d done something wrong. At seven, I tried becoming the perfect child. I cleaned my room, earned good grades, and stopped complaining about anything. One evening, Grandpa found me crying beside the window.“What’s wrong, little one?”I whispered, “Maybe Mom and Dad will come back if I’m better.”He knelt beside me.“Elise, you were never difficult to love. Their choices have nothing to do with your worth.”From then on, he made sure I never felt forgotten. He attended every school event, taught me to ride a bicycle, helped me through university, and waited up whenever I came home late. When he became ill, I cared for him just as he’d always cared for me.Then, three days before he di:ed, he asked me to sit beside his hospital bed.“Your parents may return after I’m gone,” he whispered.“Why would they?”“Because they believe there’s something here worth taking.”I shook my head.“They haven’t cared about this house in seventeen years.”Grandpa squeezed my hand.“Promise me you won’t argue with them. Let them inside. Let them talk. Then open my study.”I promised.Three days later, he passed away.My parents didn’t attend his funeral. But the evening after we buried him, Dad sent a text. We’ll be there tomorrow morning to sort out the house.I didn’t know what he meant, but I forwarded the message to Catherine Whitfield, Grandpa’s longtime attorney. She’d already contacted me about discussing his estate. After reading Dad’s message, she arranged to meet me at the house early the next morning with Philip Dawson, the successor trustee.Neither had yet explained the details of Grandpa’s arrangements. At 7:45 a.m., I let them in.Catherine said Grandpa had left specific instructions concerning his study. She and Philip went inside to prepare the documents while I waited in the kitchen. At 8:17, a moving truck rolled into the driveway.Dad’s SUV followed behind it.I opened the front door.Mom stepped out wearing expensive sunglasses.“Goodness, Elise. You look exhausted.”“Grandpa di:ed yesterday.”She adjusted her handbag.“Yes, well, we knew his health was getting worse.”Dad walked past me without a hug.“Where are the garage keys? We need to clear out the old furniture before bringing ours in.”I stared at him.“Bringing yours in?”Sienna walked through the door, glanced upstairs, and smiled.“I’m taking the master bedroom. I’ll repaint it. All that dark wood is depressing.”My chest tightened. That was Grandpa’s room. His glasses were still on the nightstand. His favorite books sat beside the bed.Mom opened the kitchen cupboard, pulled out two garbage bags, and handed them to me.“Pack your clothes and personal belongings.”I looked at her.“Where am I supposed to go?”She sighed.“Elise, you’re twenty-two. You’ve lived here rent-free your entire life. Your grandfather took responsibility for you, but that arrangement is over.”Dad folded his arms.“This was my father’s house. Naturally, it passes to me.”I remembered Grandpa’s instructions.Let them talk.So I asked, “Did any of you come to say goodbye to him?”Mom frowned.“Don’t make this unnecessarily emotional.”From upstairs, Sienna shouted, “Mom! Can I throw out these old books?”“Do whatever you want, honey!”Something inside me went strangely calm.I set the garbage bags down.“There’s something you should see.”Dad sighed.“What now?”“Grandpa’s study.”I led them down the hallway and opened the door.Catherine stood beside Grandpa’s desk, a leather folder in her hands.Philip was reviewing several documents.Dad stopped abruptly.“Catherine? What are you doing here?”She looked at him calmly.“Good morning, Marcus. Your father left instructions for us to meet Elise here.”Mom pushed forward.“Wonderful. Then perhaps you can explain the inheritance. Marcus is Theodore’s only son.”Catherine glanced at the garbage bags visible through the doorway.“I understand you’ve arrived to move into the property.”“Of course,” Dad replied.“On what authority?”Dad frowned.“I’m his son.”Catherine opened her folder.“Six years ago, Theodore transferred this property into the Theodore Mercer Revocable Living Trust.”“So?”“Under the trust’s terms, the house is designated to pass to Elise following the required administration.”The room went silent.Sienna laughed nervously.“Elise? You’re kidding.”“No,” Catherine answered.Dad’s face reddened.“My father wouldn’t leave his family home to her!”Philip spoke for the first time.“The property is currently held in the trust. As successor trustee, I’m responsible for protecting it and administering the transfer. You have no authorization to occupy the house or remove its contents.”Mom turned toward me.“You mani:pulated him!”“I didn’t even know about the trust!”Catherine raised her hand.“Theodore expected you might make that accusation. He prepared a recording to explain his decision.”Dad looked uneasy.“That’s unnecessary.”“Your father specifically requested that it be offered to you under these circumstances.”Mom crossed her arms.“Fine. Play it.”Philip turned on the television. And suddenly, Grandpa appeared. He sat in his favorite chair wearing the green sweater I’d given him for Christmas. My knees nearly gave way.“Hello, my little Elise,” he began softly.Tears immediately filled my eyes.“If you’re watching this, sweetheart, I imagine things have become difficult.”He paused.“Marcus, seventeen years ago, you brought your five-year-old daughter to my home and promised to return the following weekend.”Dad looked away.“You never came back.”Grandpa took a breath.“I called. I wrote letters. I offered to help you financially. But you told me that raising Elise was no longer part of your plans.”Mom whispered, “That’s not fair.”Grandpa continued.“I watched her wait by the window every Sunday. I watched her blame herself whenever another birthday passed without a call.”My throat tightened.“She once asked me whether becoming a better child would make you want her back.”I began crying.“No child should ever have to believe love is something she must earn by being perfect.”Grandpa leaned forward.“Now, regarding my estate, I made my arrangements years ago, while fully capable of making my own decisions and with independent legal advice.”Dad’s jaw tightened.“My home will go to Elise. My savings, investments, and rental property have also been arranged to protect her future.”Sienna stared at the television.“I haven’t chosen Elise to punish anyone,” Grandpa continued. “I’ve chosen to protect the granddaughter who stood beside me for seventeen years and cared for me when I could no longer care for myself.”His eyes grew wet.“She was never my burden. She was my greatest blessing.”Then his expression hardened.“Marcus, three months ago, you contacted my attorney and demanded to know what you would inherit. She refused to disclose my private arrangements without my permission.”Dad shifted uncomfortably.“When you didn’t get the answer you wanted, you thre:atened to challenge my estate if I left the house to Elise.”Mom looked sharply at Dad.“You contacted Catherine?”He said nothing.Grandpa continued.“Being my son does not entitle you to everything I’ve worked for, especially when you abandoned the child who needed you.”He looked directly into the camera.“You cannot disappear from someone’s life for seventeen years and return expecting the benefits of a relationship you refused to maintain.”Then his voice softened.“Elise, sweetheart, you don’t owe anyone your home, your inheritance, or your forgiveness.”He smiled.“Live your life. Find happiness. And never forget that you were always enough.”His final words were barely a whisper.“I love you, little one. Always.”The screen went black.Nobody spoke. Then Mom turned toward me.“You turned him against us!”For the first time, I didn’t shrink beneath her anger.“I was five when you left. I didn’t make you miss my birthdays. I didn’t make you ignore his letters. Grandpa watched everything happen.”Dad stared at the floor.“We made mistakes.”I waited. No apology followed.Catherine closed her folder.“Your father preserved the records of his estate planning and his independent legal advice. You’re entitled to consult your own attorney, Marcus, but you cannot take possession of property you don’t own.”A mover appeared in the hallway.“Excuse me, are we still unloading the furniture?”Philip stepped forward.“No. I’m the acting trustee, and I haven’t authorized any removal or delivery involving this property.”The mover nodded and returned outside.I looked at my parents.“You need to leave.”Mom stared at me.“We’re your parents!”“And I was your daughter.”She fell silent.I picked up the two garbage bags and handed them back.“Don’t forget these.”Dad thre:atened legal action. Sienna complained about the moving expenses. Mom accused me of being ungrateful. But eventually, they left. When the truck disappeared down the driveway, I closed the door and sank onto the floor.I cried because Grandpa was gone. And because the people I’d spent my childhood waiting for had finally returned, only to prove exactly why he’d wanted to protect me.A week later, Catherine invited me to her office. That’s when I discovered how carefully Grandpa had planned for my future. He’d saved and invested for decades, purchased a modest rental duplex, and lived simply because he valued security more than appearances. But there was another surprise. He’d also established a small charitable fund called the Open Door Foundation. It helped young adults who had grown up without stable parental support continue their education.I stared at the documents.“Grandpa never told me.”Catherine smiled.“He didn’t want recognition. He wanted children who felt forgotten to have opportunities.”The foundation was funded separately from the assets Grandpa had left me, and it had already helped several students. One recipient, a nursing student named Talia Brooks, had nearly abandoned her degree because she couldn’t afford tuition.Grandpa’s foundation had covered her final year.Reading her thank-you letter brought tears to my eyes.Even when he was growing weaker, Grandpa had been helping children who felt as alone as I once had.I asked Catherine how I could get involved.“He hoped you would,” she replied. For the first time since his de:ath, I felt something besides grief.I felt purpose. But my parents weren’t finished. Two days later, Dad called.“Elise, we need to talk about rebuilding the family.”Against my better judgment, I agreed to meet them at the house. This time, they arrived without a moving truck.Mom brought pastries.Dad carried a folder. For a moment, I thought they might finally apologize.Mom reached across the kitchen table.“We know we weren’t perfect parents.”“You weren’t parents to me at all.”Her eyes filled.“We were struggling. We were young.”“I was five.”Dad interrupted.“We can’t change the past. We need to focus on your future.”He opened his folder.“Managing a substantial inheritance is complicated. Your mother and I think we should oversee the investments until you’re more experienced.”I stared at him. There it was.The real reason for their visit.“You came back for the money.”Dad frowned.“We’re trying to help.”I looked directly at him.“If Grandpa had left me nothing, would you be sitting here?”Neither answered.I stood and opened the front door.“Then we’re finished.”Mom began crying.Dad called me disrespectful. But I didn’t change my mind. After they left, I found an old photograph beneath the pastry box.It showed Sienna and me as toddlers, sitting together in Grandpa’s garden. On the back, Mom had written:We weren’t always a broken family.I stared at it for a long time.An old photograph couldn’t erase seventeen years. Two weeks later, Sienna asked to meet me at a café.She looked exhausted. Her sunglasses were gone, and she barely touched her coffee.“I’m sorry,” she whispered.I watched her.“For what?”“For coming into Grandpa’s house and acting as if everything belonged to me. For ignoring the fact that you’d just buried him.”She wiped her eyes.“I knew you were grieving. I just didn’t care enough to think about it because I wanted that house.”It was the first truly honest thing she’d said to me.Then she explained that her husband had lost his job and they were struggling with debt.“Dad told me we’d move into Grandpa’s house and everything would be fine. I wanted to believe him.”“So you decided to take my home?”She nodded.“Yes. And I was wrong.”Then she handed me a folded letter. It was from Grandpa, written when I was seven. He’d begged our parents to contact me because I believed their absence was my fault. My hands shook as I read it.Sienna explained that Mom had told her Grandpa wanted to keep us apart. She’d been nine when they abandoned me, and for years she’d believed their version of events.“I should’ve questioned them sooner,” she said.“Yes,” I replied. “You should have.”She lowered her head.“I can’t change what happened. But I’ve told Mom and Dad I won’t support them trying to take the house. And I paid the movers myself. I won’t let them ask you for those expenses.”I looked at her. That was the first sign she understood that an apology required more than words.“Do you think we could ever be sisters?” she asked.“Maybe,” I said. “But it’ll take time.”She nodded.“I understand.”Over the following months, she kept her word. She stopped asking about the inheritance, found steady work, and began addressing her financial problems without expecting me to solve them.We met occasionally for coffee. We didn’t become close overnight. But slowly, we began building something. Then a formal letter arrived from my parents’ attorneys. They were challenging Grandpa’s estate arrangements, claiming he’d been improperly influenced. For one terrible moment, I felt like the abandoned five-year-old again.I feared losing the only home I’d ever known. But Catherine reminded me that Grandpa had established his trust years before his final illness and had documented his decisions with independent professional advice.Philip maintained his responsibilities as trustee while the challenge was reviewed.I followed their guidance, provided the necessary records, and avoided arguing with my parents.Months passed.Eventually, after reviewing the documentation and receiving legal advice, my parents withdrew their challenge. The day Catherine told me, I sat in Grandpa’s study and cried. Not because I’d defeated my parents. But because I finally knew that the home Grandpa had protected for me was no longer at the center of a legal fight.Spring arrived, and Grandpa’s garden began blooming again. For months, I’d left his bedroom untouched. His books were still beside the bed. His reading glasses remained on the nightstand. But I remembered something he’d always said.“A house is meant for living, sweetheart. Don’t turn it into a museum.”So I transformed his bedroom into a library.I kept his favorite chair, reading lamp, and books.Above the fireplace, I hung a photograph of us on my graduation day.Beneath it, I placed a small wooden sign.A home is built by the people who show up.I also began volunteering with the Open Door Foundation.I helped organize mentoring opportunities and educational support for young adults leaving foster care. One afternoon, I met Talia, the nursing student Grandpa had helped.“I wish I could’ve thanked him,” she said. “He believed in me when nobody else did.”I smiled through my tears.“He would’ve loved hearing that.”For the first time, my grief began to feel like something I could carry. Not because I missed Grandpa less. But because I was finding ways to continue what he’d started.Meanwhile, my parents remained silent.Their legal challenge had failed, and Sienna later told me that Mom had begun questioning the decisions they’d made all those years ago.I didn’t know whether that meant anything would change. Then, nearly six months after their confrontation with me, a handwritten letter arrived. It was from Mom.There were no demands about money. No accusations against Grandpa. For the first time, she admitted the truth. She’d been overwhelmed by the responsibility of raising two children during a troubled marriage. When Dad suggested leaving me with Grandpa, she’d agreed because it made their new life easier. She’d convinced herself I was better off without them. And every year that passed made it harder to return and admit what they’d done. She also acknowledged their attempt to take my inheritance. We came back expecting to receive something we hadn’t earned. Even after everything your grandfather said, I chose to fight you instead of facing what we’d done.Near the end, she wrote:I failed you when you needed me most. I know an apology cannot give you back your childhood, and I don’t expect you to forgive me.I read the letter several times. It was the first time she’d taken responsibility without blaming Grandpa or making excuses. But it didn’t erase the past.I wasn’t ready to forgive her.And I finally understood that I didn’t have to.One year after Grandpa’s de:ath, I stood in his garden as the sun began setting. The roses he’d planted were blooming again. The house was quiet, but it no longer felt unbearably empty.I’d continued my career, made new friends, and started building a future that belonged to me.Sienna visited sometimes. We were still learning how to be sisters. My parents remained at a distance.Maybe our relationship would change someday.Maybe it wouldn’t.Either way, I no longer needed their approval to feel worthy of love. That evening, I sat on the porch holding the last private letter Grandpa had written to me.One sentence stood out.You were never the child nobody wanted. You were the child who made my life complete.I pressed the paper against my chest. When I was little, Grandpa always left the porch light on until I came home.He said it was important for people to know someone was waiting for them. For seventeen years, I’d fallen asleep knowing that light was burning. Now I was the one responsible for switching it on.I looked toward the empty driveway and remembered the little girl who used to sit beside the window every Sunday, waiting for parents who never came. For years, she’d believed that if she became good enough, they’d return.I wished I could tell her that one day, she would stop waiting. That she’d discover family wasn’t always the people who shared her blood.Sometimes, family was one stubborn old man who made pancakes on birthdays, sat through school performances, and never forgot to leave the porch light on.My parents had returned seventeen years too late, carrying garbage bags and expecting me to disappear. They thought Grandpa’s de:ath meant I’d lost the only person who could protect me.But even in his final days, he’d been looking out for me.He hadn’t simply left me a house or an inheritance. He’d left me the freedom to build a life without begging anyone to love me.I stood, switched on the porch light, and whispered toward the garden.“I’m home, Grandpa.”And for the first time in my life, I wasn’t waiting for anyone to come back.I was finally where I belonged.

American Tourist's McDonald's Rant Goes Viral After French Portion Shock

French McDonald’s may have a Napoleon complex. An American man who ordered a Big Mac in France has taken to Reddit to share his disdain for the European nation’s paltry portions. Reddit/Dashin-through-dough“I paid €6.40 ($7.13) in France for a ‘Big Mac’ that’s smaller than a McChicken,” he captioned the post.Perhaps anticipating backlash for eating at a chain restaurant while touring one of the world’s premier culinary destinations, he added the following disclaimer/defense:“Every time I travel outside of the United States, I like to compare McDonald’s from that country and see if the quality is indeed better.”After the Frend faux pas, the unpaid, unsolicited quality-control expert said he would no longer continue his international burger tour. “My ‘try out McDonald’s’ experience in other countries has likely ended,” he said in closing. In a surprise to no one, the chorus of the internet had thoughts. “Maybe you just have gigantic hands. No way for us to know,” speculated one commenter. “It’s still miles better than the garbage Americans eat,” leveled another. Touche.“6.40 euros is robbery for such a disappointing product. Look at how thin that beef patty is. Hope you learned your lesson, brother,” commiserated a third. A McDonald’s restaurant stands in Béziers, Southern France, on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026. Well, that and two packs a day,” added an optimist. “Leaves America and gets a regular portion and instead of being mad that Americans overeat is mad that he has a burger that is big by international standards but small by American standards,” assailed another critic. WTF is this?! This is seriously action figure-sized. A few f—ing sips & it was gone. I compared it to a plastic cup from my pantry. To top it off — it was $1.91 for this sewing thimble. Bring back ‘$1 ANY SIZE SOFT DRINKS!!!” the annoyed customer wrote underneath the photo in the u/McDonald’s subreddit. This smaller-size-for-the-same-money tale is as old as time in 2026.In April, Chick-fil-A was called out for supposedly shrinking their Deluxe Sandwich as a Reddit user shared two photos of the popular menu item, one from 2021 and one from today. And as sizes are diminishing, prices are soaring. In 2024, a report found that McDonald’s had hiked its menu prices by more than 100% over the last decade — more than three times the rate of US inflation. Some of the most egregiously inflated items included $18 for a Big Mac meal in Connecticut,, $7.29 for an Egg McMuffin, and $5.69 for a side of hash browns.

Patrick Stewart’s Final Marvel Appearance Leaves Fans Emotional New

Patrick Stewart’s Final Marvel Appearance Leaves Fans Emotional

Marvel Studios has unveiled a new look at the late Patrick Stewart's final film performance, reprising his iconic X-Men role as Professor Charles Xavier in Avengers: Doomsday. "All of us at Marvel Studios are deeply saddened by the passing of Sir Patrick Stewart," a Marvel Studios Instagram post read on Thursday, October 29. "Sir Patrick brought Professor Charles Xavier to life with extraordinary grace, intelligence, and humanity, defining the character for generations of fans, from X-Men to Logan to Avengers: Doomsday.” The studio's statement read, "He was a singular talent, a generous collaborator, and a true gentleman. Our hearts go out to his wife Sunny, his children, his friends, and the countless fans around the world whose lives he touched with his art." Marvel shared a sneak peek of Stewart's final film appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, with a still photo showing a smiling Professor X inside what appears to be a dimly lit X-Mansion. The upcoming Marvel Studios blockbuster features heroes from three different universes — the Avengers and the Wakandans from Earth-616, the X-Men from Earth-10005 and the Fantastic Four from Earth-828 — converging to counter a multiversal threat from Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). In one of his final interviews, Stewart opened up to TV Insider about why he decided to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe more than 25 years after he first played Charles Xavier in 2000's X-Men. “As any actor my age will tell you, there are fewer and fewer available roles as we get older," he explained in July. "That being said, I still continue to receive interesting offers and I love being challenged by new work. I can’t imagine ever officially retiring. … I’ll always and forever be an actor.” Doomsday reunites Stewart with longtime pal and collaborator Ian McKellen as their X-Men characters, Professor X and Magneto, respectively, join forces one final time. McKellen was one of Stewart's many friends and colleagues to honor his contributions to the craft of acting after news broke on Thursday that he'd died at age 86 following a brief battle with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia. “Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end," McKellen, 87, wrote via Instagram. "You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love." McKellen recalled meeting Stewart when they were both "ambitious young actors" in the Royal Shakespeare Company "a half a century ago" — and maintaining a close friendship as their careers skyrocketed. "America was his adopted home, where he met his adored [third wife, Sunny Ozell] who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire," McKellen added. "His farewell performance in Avengers: Doomsday is yet to be seen.” Shortly after Stewart's longtime representative, Kelly Bush Novak, confirmed that the legendary actor died at his Los Angeles home on Wednesday, October 28, Marvel Studios hailed him as a "generational talent." "Sir Patrick Stewart leaves behind an indelible cultural footprint and legacy," the studio said in a statement. "Marvel Studios extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fans around the world." Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18 and will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.

Can you solve this simple math puzzle without using a calculator?A piece of paper, a pen, and your mind are all you need.Today’s viral challenge is: 6 + 4 ÷ 2 × 5 = ?At first glance, it looks like an easy exercise for elementary school kids.Yet, thousands of people on social media argue over the correct answer. Many people get 25.Others confidently announce that the result is 16.Some even end up with 10.Why does such a basic problem cause so much confusion? The answer lies in how we read math compared to how we read words. When we read a book, our eyes move strictly from left to right.Because of this natural habit, many people calculate the numbers in that exact sequence. They start by adding six and four to get ten. Then, they divide ten by two to get five. Finally, they multiply five by five and arrive at twenty-five.This seems completely smooth and intuitive. However, arithmetic does not follow the simple left-to-right rule when mixed operations are involved.Mathematics relies on a universal agreement called the Order of Operations. In English-speaking classrooms, this standard rule is often remembered as PEMDAS or BODMAS.These acronyms stand for Parentheses (Brackets), Exponents (Orders), Multiplication and Division, and Addition and Subtraction. The golden rule states that multiplication and division have equal priority.Similarly, addition and subtraction share equal priority.Crucially, multiplication and division must always be performed before any addition or subtraction. When operations have the same priority level, you must work them out from left to right. Now, let us revisit our equation carefully: 6 + 4 ÷ 2 × 5 = ?First, scan the entire expression for parentheses or exponents. There are none.Next, look for multiplication and division. We spot two terms: division (4 ÷ 2) and multiplication (× 5).Since division and multiplication rank equally, we must evaluate them from left to right. The division comes first on the left: four divided by two equals two (4 ÷ 2 = 2).Now, substitute this back into the problem: 6 + 2 × 5.We still have a multiplication step left to finish before touching the plus sign.Multiply two by five, which gives ten (2 × 5 = 10).Now, the entire equation reduces to a single, straightforward operation: 6 + 10.Finally, perform the addition: six plus ten equals sixteen. That is the entire logical journey. The common trap of getting 25 happens when people add before dividing. The trap of getting 10 happens when people multiply before dividing, ignoring the left-to-right rule for equal ranks.Only by respecting the strict hierarchy of operations do we reach the true answer. The only mathematically correct answer is 16.

Kristen Bell's Surprising Wish to Leave L.A. Behind for a Simpler Life New

Kristen Bell's Surprising Wish to Leave L.A. Behind for a Simpler Life

Kristen Bell is dreaming of the days where her family of four has left the City of Angeles. “The prescription out here is hustle, and I want something to feel softer and slower,” the Nobody Wants This star, 46, revealed of life in Los Angeles during the Thursday, October 29, episode of Erin and Sara Foster’s “World’s First” podcast. “It doesn’t have to feel like that. I've had plenty of days where I've been like, ‘Let's just go, take a friend and l go to lunch or go ride horses or walk around Griffith Park.’” She continued, “They're fewer and far between than I'd like because when I'm here, someone's calling like, ‘Can you support this charity event? Can you show up at this thing for the show? Can you shoot this thing for me? A friend of a friend is making a short film and they want to get it seen. Can you be in it?’” Bell and husband Dax Shepard are currently raising their two daughters, Delta and Lincoln, in L.A. amid the actress’ personal affinity for destinations like Nashville. “It's, like, because of the amount of opportunities,” she quipped of her mindset. “I almost want to be away from opportunities. I know that sounds terrible.” Erin, 44, empathized with Bell, who plays a version of the podcaster in her Netflix series. (Erin and Sara, 45, cocreated the romantic comedy loosely based on Erin’s interfaith relationship with now-husband Simon Tikhman. She has since converted to Judaism.) “I think you and I have that in common where we're like, ‘Everything is about getting back to our family and getting back home to our kids and our home life and having a home-cooked meal and sitting around watching TV,” Erin noted. “[We’re focused on] the wholesomeness of it, as opposed to chasing this thing. It's incongruent, like, everything in my soul pulls me back home. That’s where I want to be.” For Bell, she wants to be able to balance her thriving acting career with a private home life. “I think that also comes with the privilege of sort of having a hit show ‘cause if any of us were feeling like we were super struggling and we wanted more out of our creative ventures, I don't think we'd be having this conversation,” she acknowledged. “We'd be like, ‘I got to go to that thing ‘cause I want to get noticed or I want to get my project seen.’” Bell continued, “I've had the luxury of saying, ‘I've done it.’ I've been to the Oscars, I've been nominated for things [and] I've hit the mountain peaks, right? I've worn so many fancy dresses I can't even see straight. But, it's only because of that I've learned that, ‘Oh, it still [feels] pretty empty. It didn't make me feel any differently, but do you know what does always make me feel differently? When I'm home and clearheaded, I’m not doing something or [sending] emails or whatever’s on my to-do list and I welcome my middle schoolers home.’”

Not-so-happy hour.A round of margaritas turned into a nightmare at a North Carolina Chili’s when bartenders mistakenly mixed a cleaning chemical into customers’ drinks — leaving three customers with chemical burns. The mix-up happened Wednesday at the restaurant chain’s Forest City location, when an employee preparing the bar for lunch service mistook a granulated degreaser for sugar.Customers at a North Carolina Chili’s suffered chemical burns after a cleaning product was mistakenly mixed into their margaritas. WLOSThe chemical had been brought to the dining chain two days earlier by a worker who received it from a contractor power-washing the building’s exterior, according to the Foothills Health District. The substance was placed in an unlabeled container and left in the bar area, where another employee found it Wednesday and mistook it for sugar while preparing margaritas.Three customers ordered the cocktails and “immediately experienced discomfort,” suffering chemical burns in and around their mouths, the health agency said. The patrons alerted the restaurant staff before leaving to seek medical attention. Two employees then tasted the mystery substance in the container and developed similar symptoms.A granulated degreaser left by a contractor ended up in the bar, where a worker mistook it for sugar and added it to cocktails. Chili's“I’m not sure what degree of chemical burns they had, but they went to urgent care and were treated there,” Foothills Health District spokesperson Megan Rollins said, according to ABC News13.The bizarre incident has left at least one regular customer shaken and questioning whether he will return to the restaurant’s bar.“I was beyond surprised and almost scared,” Chili’s regular Levonne Baker told the outlet. The health district suspended the restaurant’s permit before reinstating it after officials cleared its food safety practices. WLOSBaker compared the ordeal to something out of a horror movie.“It has made me a little nervous about going back to the bar because it’s like what’s in there next? I mean, am I going to be the next person who’s going next door? And not for an oil change,” he said.A mechanic and an urgent care facility are located next door to the Chili’s.The Foothills Health District launched an investigation and immediately suspended the restaurant’s food service permit, ordering staff to thoroughly wash and sanitize affected food preparation areas, equipment and surfaces. The permit was reinstated by Thursday morning after environmental health specialists completed their investigation and determined the restaurant met “all applicable food safety requirements.”“This incident highlights the importance of proper chemical labeling, storage, and handling in food service establishments, as required by the North Carolina Food Code, to prevent chemical contamination and protect public health,” Foothills Health District Director Jason Masters said.
