Could a Tapeworm Drug Be the Game-Changer for Endometriosis? New

Could a Tapeworm Drug Be the Game-Changer for Endometriosis?

See more of our coverage in your search results. Talk about an unlikely hero.Tapeworms are often the bane of the health world, from ill-advised use to achieve a slim waist to inflicting terrible neurological symptoms like headaches, confusion, seizures and death.Medication used for the little larvae could provide relief for a disease with debilitating pain and no cure that experts have deemed a clinical failure for millions of women.Medication for tapeworm infections could also provide relief for a debilitating condition that affects millions of women. Drazen – stock.adobe.comDespite 1 in 10 women of reproductive age worldwide suffering, Dr. Sheeva Talebian, board-certified reproductive endocrinologist, previously told The Post that symptoms of endometriosis are often unreported and misdiagnosed.A new study, though, has found a promising treatment for the progressive, inflammatory disease that could directly target the painful lesions growing outside the uterus.Published in August in the journal Advanced Healthcare Material, researchers fitted niclosamide, an FDA-approved anti-worm drug, with nanotech armor for use in mice. The medication reduced inflammation and slowed or prevented further spread of the lesions — a boon for the condition whose existing treatments merely alleviate symptoms, albeit with side effects. While there’s no cure for endometriosis, current remedies like hormonal medications stall the menstrual cycle to limit the growth of lesions, while surgeries can remove the lesions themselves or parts of the reproductive system to manage pain. However, the medications can often cause side effects, like nausea and mood swings. Meanwhile, lesions can keep growing after surgery. These adverse effects prompted the need for an additional option.A new treatment for endometriosis was discovered by restructuring the common tapeworm medication niclosamide. ggw – stock.adobe.comPrevious research in mice found a group of rogue immune cells specific to endometrial lesion tissue that drove growth and turbocharged the painful inflammation.Researchers also discovered a unique chemical label in the cells called a folate receptor, which made them a potential target for drugs — specifically, niclosamide.Clinicians had already been testing whether this drug could be used for other conditions beyond tapeworm infections, making it a potential treatment for endometriosis. The drug reduced inflammation and slowed the growth of lesions outside the uterus, two hallmark signs of endometriosis. megaflopp – stock.adobe.comWorking with nanomedicine specialists, the team worked to restructure niclosamide so it could dissolve better in blood by attaching it to a molecule known as a dendrimer.A folate receptor was also added so the modified medication targeted the rogue immune cells in endometrial lesion tissue. The final medication is similar to someone riding in a carshare, according to Anjali Sharma, a nanomedicine specialist at the University of Michigan who worked with the research team to develop the medication.“Basically, the dendrimer is like the Uber, the folate is like the GPS, and the drug is like the passenger,” Sharma told Live Science.“The drug is attached in such a way that when it is in systemic circulation, nothing happens until it goes inside the diseased cells,” Sharma said.Once there, it is slowly released inside the cell over a period of two weeks. In mouse models, a single injection of the drug directly targeted affected endometrial tissue, dramatically reducing pain and slowing, or even entirely stopping, the growth of new lesions. However, there’s still significant work to do to ensure the medication can be used on humans — namely the fact that mice don’t menstruate or develop endometriosis. The researchers believe the drug still shows immense promise, though.“There’s a lot of potential in repurposing of drugs that have been tested in clinical trials to see if they would be effective in endometriosis,” Ioannis Simitsidellis, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Edinburgh’s Centres for Reproductive Health and Inflammation Research who wasn’t involved in the study, told Live Science.Even at such an early stage in the process, the researchers have received hundreds of emails asking to join future trials.Next steps would be testing the medication in larger sample sizes and then, if the results are promising, clinical trials on humans.

Why This Simple Math Puzzle Is Confusing Everyone Online New

Why This Simple Math Puzzle Is Confusing Everyone Online

Math puzzles often go viral on the internet because they look simple at first glance. However, they frequently confuse thousands of people due to order of operations. In the picture, we see a handwritten math problem: 25 ÷ 5(2+3).Above the equation, it clearly says: “Answer is NOT 1”.Many people might wonder why the answer is not 1 and what the correct value actually is.Let us break down this puzzle step by step using basic arithmetic rules. To solve any mathematical expression correctly, we must follow the standard order of operations. This rule is widely known as PEMDAS or BODMAS.Both acronyms stand for Parentheses (Brackets), Exponents (Orders), Multiplication and Division, and Addition and Subtraction. The most crucial part of this rule is how multiplication and division are handled.Multiplication and division have equal priority in mathematics. This means you do not always perform multiplication before division.Instead, you must perform multiplication and division strictly from left to right as they appear. Now, let us apply this rule directly to our problem: 25 ÷ 5(2+3).Step 1: Focus on the expression inside the parentheses first. We calculate (2 + 3), which equals 5.Now, we replace (2 + 3) with 5 in our expression. The math problem now becomes 25 ÷ 5 × 5.Step 2: Look at the remaining operations, which are division and multiplication.Since division and multiplication have the exact same level of precedence, we move from left to right. The first operation on the left side is 25 ÷ 5.We perform 25 ÷ 5, which equals 5.Step 3: Substitute 5 back into the expression. Now we are left with 5 × 5.Finally, we calculate 5 × 5, which gives us 25.Why do many people incorrectly think the answer is 1?They wrongly multiply 5 by (2 + 3) first to get 5 × 5 = 25.Then they divide 25 by 25, reaching 1.This is incorrect because it violates the left-to-right rule for multiplication and division. The image correctly hints that the answer is not 1.By following the logical and standard rules of algebra, the correct answer is definitely 25.

Luke Bryan's Son Bo Faces Setback After Dramatic Football Injury New

Luke Bryan's Son Bo Faces Setback After Dramatic Football Injury

Luke Bryan’s son suffered a scary injury while playing quarterback during his high school football game in Tennessee. Thomas Boyer “Bo” Bryan exited Battle Ground Academy’s Friday, October 16, game against Pope John Paul II after being sacked and landing on his right shoulder. Bo, 18, eventually returned to the sideline of the game with his arm in a sling and his shoulder wrapped. After the game, Bo shared that he initially thought it was a stinger when he hit the ground but knew there was something wrong when he got off the field. Bo told The Tennessean that he would be undergoing an X-Ray after the game. “I don't know what we're looking at yet," BGA coach Bobby Bentley told the Tennessean after the game. "We'll have to figure this thing out. That's the challenge for us as a team and as coaches. What do we do? How do we do it? We're going to figure it out." The next day, Bo shared an update on his condition via social media. “Broke my collarbone last night,” he wrote via his Instagram Story on Saturday, October 17, per USA Today. “Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We will be back.” Luke, 50, welcomed Bo with wife Caroline Boyer in 2008 and added son Tatum “Tate” Christopher Bryan to their family two years later. After his sister, Kelly Bryan, and brother-in-law, Ben Lee Cheshire, died, Luke and Caroline took in their three children — Til, Kris and Jordan — to raise with their sons. Weeks before Bo’s injury, Luke shared a sweet message of support for his son and said he was “super impressed” by him. “His senior year, he’s learning as he goes,” Luke told the USA Today High School Sports social media account in September after a game. “Everything that happens to him this year, it’s the first time he’s had all these pressure situations. The ups, the downs.” Luke cited a moment where the high schooler’s coach appeared to trust Bo’s instinct, sharing that he “can’t be more proud as a dad.” “The main thing is you see the hard work that he puts in and you just want the hard work to pay off,” Luke said. “Nights like tonight is when you get to celebrate that. The main thing is to see his hard work and his commitment and his love for the game. Bo is really young in his development as a quarterback because he was a two and three sport athlete his whole life. So the fact that he’s able to really turn the corner on being a quarterback and things, it’s all about confidence as [a] quarterback and [there’s] no bigger game than that tonight. … I’m just so proud of him.”

Sister's Heartfelt Tribute to College Athlete Tyler Ulrich After Tragic Passing New

Sister's Heartfelt Tribute to College Athlete Tyler Ulrich After Tragic Passing

The sister of late Southern Nazarene sophomore safety Tyler Ulrich shared an emotional post after her brother’s sudden death at 21 after suffering a “traumatic injury” during a game. “I never thought I would have to find the words to say goodbye to my big brother.  No amount of time could have ever prepared me for the heartbreak of losing you,” Kaylee Parrish wrote via Facebook on Thursday, October 15. “I wish I could hear your laugh one more time, or have just one more conversation with you. There are so many things I wish I could say and so many more memories I wish we could make together.” She continued, “You weren’t just my older brother, you were someone I always thought would be here. Someone I thought I’d get to grow old with, laugh with, and share all of life’s biggest moments with. It’s hard to imagine a world where you’re no longer here, and even harder knowing that life has to go on without you in it.” Ulrich died on Thursday, five days after he suffered an injury during a game against Ouachita Baptist University. Details about the incident are unclear, but Southern Nazarene president SNU President Keith Newman described it as “a traumatic injury.” An official cause of death has not been announced. “I would give anything for just one more day with you,” Parrish continued. “I hope you knew how much I loved you and how much you meant to me. I’ll forever cherish every memory, every laugh, and every moment we got to share. A piece of my heart went to Heaven with you, and nothing will ever fill that empty space.” Her post concluded, Until then, I’ll carry you with me through every milestone, every memory, and every day of my life. I’ll love you, miss you, and wish you were here for the rest of my days. I’ll never let anyone forget you and I will spend the rest of my life trying to walk through your shoes and live the way you would want me [to]. I love you big brother, thank you for all you’ve taught me! Until we meet again .” Tyler’s father, Mark, confirmed his son’s death on social media on Thursday.  “Our family is truly blessed to receive all the love and prayers for our young Tyler and we are ever grateful,” Mark wrote via Facebook. “But as much support and love that was given, it is with a heavy heart I am writing to say the Lord called Tyler this morning at 11:13 a.m. Tyler will join many of our loved ones that have passed. Tyler led a life full of faith, passion and being a BEAST on the football field!!! He will be remembered always.”

The Wooden Rocking Chair (The “Antique Soul”)The Vibe: You are either a 90-year-old grandmother or a 24-year-old who knits and listens to lo-fi hip-hop.The Diagnosis: You find comfort in repetitive motion because it distracts you from the linear passage of time. You probably own more than three types of herbal tea and have strong opinions about “the good old days” (which you weren’t alive for).Hidden Talent: Being able to fall asleep while someone is literally screaming at you.3. The Tall Bar Stool (The “Perpetual Outsider”)The Vibe: You like to look down on people, but you have no back support. The Diagnosis: You want to appear casual and “cool,” but you’re actually incredibly uncomfortable. The Ceiling Swing (The “Manic Pixie Dream Disaster”)The Vibe: “Look at me! I’m whimsical! I’m detached from the ground!”The Diagnosis: You have commitment issues. The Floor Cushion (The “Spiritual Minimalist”)The Vibe: “I did a yoga retreat once and now I think chairs are a capitalist construct.”The Diagnosis: You have very flexible hamstrings but a very rigid ego. The Toddler High Chair (The “Regressive Genius”)The Vibe: You want someone else to make the decisions and feed you mashed peas. The Diagnosis: You are burnt out. You’ve had enough of “adulting.” You want to be strapped in, kept safe, and given a bib. You’re probably the smartest person in the room, but you’re too tired to use your brain.Hidden Talent: Throwing a tantrum so poetic it’s considered performance art.10. The Three-Legged Stool (The “Risk Taker”)The Vibe: Efficiency over stability. The Diagnosis: You like to live on the edge. You trust physics more than you trust people. You are a “minimalist” mostly because you lose everything you own every six months.Hidden Talent: Balancing a checking account with $0.42 in it.11. The Bean Bag (The “Absolute Chaos”)The Vibe: A shapeless blob for a shapeless life. The Diagnosis: You have given up. You have accepted that life is just a series of sinkholes. You are comfortable, yes, but you will never be able to stand up again without making a loud groaning sound.Hidden Talent: Becoming one with the furniture.Final Verdict: If you couldn’t decide and chose to stand by the door like the psychologist’s assistant… you have Trust Issues. Aaron Rodgers' Emotional Reunion with Family Sparks Buzz at Steelers Game New

Aaron Rodgers' Emotional Reunion with Family Sparks Buzz at Steelers Game

Aaron Rodgers had nearly his entire family cheering for him on the sidelines following the group's unexpected reunion earlier this year. “Last weekend was pretty special. ,” Aaron’s brother Luke Rodgers wrote via Instagram on Sunday, October 18, alongside throwback photos from the Steelers’ October 12 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. (The Steelers won 34-22.) Before kickoff, Aaron, 42, greeted Luke, 44, and his wife, Aimee Rodgers, at Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium with their three young children. The siblings’ parents, Ed and Darla Rodgers, were also present. (Aaron and Luke’s younger brother, Jordan Rodgers, did not appear to be in attendance, though he did “like” Luke’s post.) Luke’s family later watched the quarterback’s game from a private suite before their brood reconvened at a private residence. In additional snaps, Aaron was seen cuddling his niece and nephew. Aaron had long been estranged from his parents and brothers throughout his NFL tenure. They recently reconciled thanks in part to Aaron’s wife, Brittani. “I’m in a much better headspace, and I said it before, but my wife deserves a lot of the credit for that just to be even able to to get to that point where I could think about having the conversation,” Aaron, who announced his marriage in June 2025 after a private courtship, said on the “Not Just Football” podcast last month. “She was a big part of that, not that she was pushing anything, she wasn’t.” He continued at the time, “When you’re loved by someone in such an unconditional and beautiful pure way, it changes your perspective on all your relationships around that. That becomes your anchor point. It’s like, wow, if I can be made to feel like this by this person, it opens up your heart in a really deeper way, you know, that I never experienced before.” According to Aaron, he visited with his parents at their California hometown before traveling to meet with Luke in Nashville. “A couple weeks after that, I met with my little brother. It was cool,” Aaron noted, noting he had a “tough conversation” with Jordan, 38. “There was some stuff there and then I could tell I was coming to a time where I needed to make it right.” Jordan first detailed the siblings’ estrangement on now-wife JoJo Fletcher’s season of The Bachelorette in 2016, revealing that Aaron wouldn’t join their relatives for his hometown date. Aaron later criticized Jordan for publicizing the drama. Fresh off his team’s October 12 victory, Aaron led the Steelers to a 26-19 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

The Husband Riddle: Why Everyone's Talking About This Quirky Personality Test New

The Husband Riddle: Why Everyone's Talking About This Quirky Personality Test

The “Husband Riddle”: A Fun Personality Test to Uncover Your Deepest TraitsHave you ever looked at a bizarre situation and thought, “What on earth is going on here?” Well, today we have a quirky little visual puzzle that is doing exactly that! Take a close look at the image. We see a woman standing anxiously on a narrow ledge outside a window, high up on a building wall. Inside the room, looking out at her, are three distinct men, and one mysterious hand doing something very peculiar. The big question is: “WHICH ONE IS HER HUSBAND?”This isn’t just a regular brain teaser; it’s a fun personality test designed to uncover your deepest psychological traits based on how you analyze human behavior, pressure, and humor. Look at the four numbered options and pick the one you think is truly her husband.Got your answer? Let’s dive into what your choice says about you!🏛️ Choice 1: The Stern JudgeLook at man number 1. He is an older, distinguished gentleman with a gray beard, wearing formal judicial robes with a purple and white collar. He looks serious, authoritative, and completely in control of his emotions. If you chose the judge, you are a person who values logic, rules, and stability.Your Traits: You believe that a good husband is someone who provides security and always knows the right thing to do. You are likely an analytical thinker who doesn’t panic easily.Deep Insight: In relationships, you look for a partner who acts as an anchor. You appreciate maturity, wisdom, and someone who can solve life’s chaotic problems with calm rationality. You chose him because you feel that a husband’s job is to bring order to a stressful situation.👮 Choice 2: The Brave PolicemanNext up is number 2, a young, fit police officer in a neat dark blue uniform, complete with his badge and cap. He is looking out at the woman with a calm, attentive, and protective gaze.If your gut told you the policeman is the husband, your core values are protection, duty, and heroism.Your Traits: You have a deeply empathetic nature and a strong desire to feel safe. You are a natural caretaker, and you appreciate people who step up to protect others.Deep Insight: For you, love is synonymous with safety. You believe a true partner is someone who will defend you from the world, stand by your side in times of danger, and always have your back. You chose the officer because his literal job description is to rescue people in distress!🤓 Choice 3: The Worried IntellectualMan number 3 is a sharp-dressed gentleman wearing a checkered blazer, a yellow bow tie, and glasses. Unlike the first two, he has a genuinely worried, anxious expression on his face as he looks at the woman. If you picked the worried doctor or intellectual, your personality is driven by deep emotion, empathy, and vulnerability.Your Traits: You are highly sensitive to how other people feel. You don’t care about stoic masks; you value raw, honest human emotion.Deep Insight: Why did you choose him? Because he is the only one who looks genuinely terrified for her safety! To you, love means sharing pain. You feel that a real husband wouldn’t look calm or professional if his wife were standing on a dangerous ledge—he would be panicking out of pure love and care. You value emotional connection above all else.🐀 Choice 4: The Mischievous Prankster (The Hand with the Mouse)Finally, let’s look at choice number 4. This isn’t a face, but an arm in a stylish tweed jacket reaching out of the window to drop a little brown mouse right onto the ledge next to the woman’s feet!If you skipped the three obvious men and chose the prankster, you have a highly unconventional, humorous, and out-of-the-box personality.Your Traits: You have a wicked sense of humor, a bit of a rebellious streak, and you absolutely refuse to take life too seriously. You hate boredom and love surprises.Deep Insight: Why on earth would this be the husband? Because you know that long-term relationships are full of inside jokes and playful teasing! You figured that the woman didn’t climb out there because of a tragedy—she probably jumped out because her husband playfully scared her with a mouse, or he is trying to get her back inside by using her fears against her. You believe love should be fun, unpredictable, and full of laughter.

Kaia Gerber's Heartfelt Tribute to Presley: The Words That Moved Everyone New

Kaia Gerber's Heartfelt Tribute to Presley: The Words That Moved Everyone

Kaia Gerber is speaking out after brother Presley Gerber's death at 27. "Prez, I don’t have the words, and maybe the tiny mercy is that we didn’t need them all along. Words fail and words subtract and words summarize and words always lack truth. And how naive of me to believe that language could transcend grief," Kaia, 25, began in her statement shared via Instagram on Sunday, October 18. "I’ve read all of the books and I have none of the answers. My articulation is no match against this, the magnitude of losing you. I am, quite literally, down on my f***ing knees." She continued, "You know how much I loved being your sister. It has always been, and will forever be, my favorite thing about myself. I came into this world with a white-knuckle grip around you. I had more love for you than I knew what to do with. And now that it has nowhere obvious to go, I’m certain it’s going to swallow me whole." In her statement, Kaia noted that Presley "always believed" in people and "met cruelty not with anger, but with confusion" and "curiosity." "You believed people were inherently good because, Presley, you are inherently good," she wrote. "And somehow, through all of it, I got to be your sister, your lucky eternal witness, watching you do the most hard-core, heavy metal thing anyone can do: you stayed soft." Kaia recalled him being her "ultimate teacher while you were here, and now I’m left wondering what I could possibly be taught in your absence." "And I keep thinking about how when we were little, I got scared before getting my ears pierced, so you went first. You always went first. But when I held the earring they took from your body, all I could think was: that belongs to you," she wrote. "And I really f***ing wish you hadn’t gone first this time." She continued, "One of the last things you wrote about was a dream you had where animals were running from a fire into a lake. You wondered, 'If fear makes type of animal not matter.' You left me with the answer. Whatever kind of animal I was before this doesn’t matter anymore. To say loving you was the easiest thing in the world would imply that it required any effort at all. I was born loving you. I will die loving you. There was never anything else." Kaia noted that she's now "learning how to love you when I cannot see you," adding, "How to tell you something without picking up my phone to call you. How to be your sister in a world that I can’t reach for you in." She continued, "I don’t know how to do that yet. You missed our date. I forgive you. Keep a place for me in the meantime. Because, Presley, even knowing where it ends, I would choose it all over again. Every second. I would walk knowingly toward this grief if it meant that on the other side of it I got to be your sister." Kaia went on to quote Richard Feynman, who once wrote to his late wife, “You, dead, are so much better than anyone else alive. My darling wife, I do adore you. I love my wife. My wife is dead.” "Give me the whole impossible bargain. Give me every year with you and then give me this. Alright. I'll take it," she wrote. "My darling brother, I do adore you. I love my brother, my brother is dead. And this party sucks so bad without you, prez." She continued, "My best buddy, my great protector, the hardest I've ever laughed and the one true love of my life -- you lit all of my candles and took all of my monsters away. And I love you. And I love you. And I love you. Only you know how much. Thank you for being here." Alongside the message, Kaia shared a childhood video of the pair dancing and an image of the brother-sister duo standing by the ocean. "P.S. this song is the last thing we talked about. First you were. You always went first," she concluded, captioning the upload, "I love you the bluest, to the moon and back and back again, forever big brother." Earlier on Sunday, Kaia and her family shared a statement honoring Presley via mom Cindy Crawford's Instagram. "Presley Walker Gerber. July 2, 1999-September 20, 2026. We are beyond heartbroken to lose our beloved son and brother. We feel so blessed to have had Presley in our lives for 27 years," the message read. "He is a sweet, beautiful soul who loved and is loved, now and forever. We are so proud of how he showed up in the world, with kindness and vulnerability. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from so many who know and love our family and even strangers who feel our pain. Til we meet again our sweet boy. We love you forever, Mom, Dad and Kaia ." Us confirmed on September 20, that Crawford and husband Rande Gerber's son died in a rehab facility. (A cause of death has yet to be revealed.) "The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time," read the statement from Presley's family. Celebrities subsequently took to social media to share heartfelt tributes. “I’m completely heartbroken. I still can’t believe this is real,” Paris Hilton wrote via her Instagram Stories. “You were such a beautiful soul. So sweet, sensitive, kind and genuine. I cared about you so much, and I’m going to miss you more than words can say.” Hilton, 45, said she would “cherish the memories” she shared with Presley. “You had such a gentle heart and there was something so special about you that anyone who was lucky enough to know you could feel,” she continued. “I hope you knew how deeply loved you were and how many people cared about you. My heart is with your entire family during this unimaginable time. Rest in peace, my friend. Love you forever. You will be so deeply missed.” David and Victoria Beckham’s son Brooklyn Beckham, meanwhile, shared a tribute via social media, writing, “Presley you were the kindest and we are going to miss you so much. We love you.” Before Presley's death, Kaia opened up about watching him battle mental health struggles and substance abuse. “When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,” she told Vogue in August. “I think that’s also why I started to self-identify as the easy one and never wanted to ask for help. Because it felt like too much to have two children who were needing.” Kaia praised Presley for using his own experience to help others. “My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything — and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone.’ There’s only so much you can hide from the world,” she added at the time. “And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you’re ashamed of them.” If you or someone you know is struggling with substance abuse, contact the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357).
